Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Dr. Conlon uses a variety of therapies, based on your individual needs, including CBT, sometimes with E/RP (including Virtual Reality).
Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Exposure Response Prevention are research-based, effective treatments for many difficulties. Virtual Reality allows individuals to face some of their fears in the office. Some of the most common difficulties that respond to CBT are listed below.
Depression
Social Anxiety
Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Fear of Driving
Fear of Flying
Fear of Needles
Specific Phobia
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Why choose CBT?
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is “as effective, or more effective, than other psychological therapies examined…in the treatment of adults with anxiety and depression” according to the SAMHSA National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. Also, in some cases CBT alone, or CBT with medication was more effective than medication alone. Some patients with anxiety disorders tolerate CBT better than medication.
Who is a good candidate for these services?
1. Anyone who feels he or she is struggling with anxiety or depression that is bothersome enough to interfere with daily functioning. Anxiety or depression takes many different forms. Most people are sure when they have a problem, but sometimes, a family member or co-worker will bring it to a person’s attention. An initial diagnostic session with Dr. Conlon will help determine whether CBT treatment is a good option for you.
2. Clients who are able to commit to weekly sessions for a few months. Progress in therapy is unique to each individual. Some clients will be finished with treatment in about 16 weeks, but many others will have reason to continue. Reaching the end of therapy is part of the treatment plan, and is determined by mutual collaboration between the client and Dr. Conlon.
